Okcoin Team Picks: Coin Metrics’ State of the Network

There’s nothing more beautiful than data that’s carefully distilled, visualized, and crafted into insightful analysis. And while there are great teams in the space that do this – the Coin Metrics team’s work is one I always look forward to. Every week, Coin Metrics’ State of the Network takes a focused topic, overlays a deep understanding of the crypto space, and uses on-chain tools and market data to tell a brilliant story.

Let me highlight a few that I’ve particularly enjoyed. Coin Metrics’ post on January 28th, 2020 took us back to 2011 and re-examined four of the largest Bitcoin hacks on crypto exchanges over the years. Highlighting Bitcoinica, Mt. Gox, Bitfinex, and Binance, this piece was  a trip down memory lane as I’ve personally experienced most of those events.

Another great piece that really showcases the team’s ability to parse and present on-chain data is Analyzing Crypto Supply Distribution Patterns published on February 28, 2020. Take a look at this beautiful chart showing how bitcoin has been increasingly distributed over time (especially compared to other tokens).

Another chart that caught my eye was released today on May 12th. It shows a heatmap of when USDT transfers typically occur. This is part of a deep dive that looks at when stablecoins are generally used. This chart in particular shows Tether being used predominantly during Asian and European market hours.

I’m always amazed by the quality, depth, and analysis the Coin Metrics perform every week and highly recommend subscribing!
