Supporting Our Community During the Coronavirus Lockdown

Supporting Our Community During the Coronavirus Lockdown

Beginning March 17 to at least April 7, San Francisco, along with six other Bay Area counties, are under a shelter-in-place directive requiring residents to stay home except for essential needs in an attempt to stem the spread of COVID-19. This is a watershed moment that will likely have lasting impacts beyond what we currently know.

Internally, we’ve taken steps to ensure the safety of our team members and our direct community. These include restricting business travel, instituting a mandatory work from home policy, and providing additional sick leave to all our employees as we battle this pandemic.

Beyond our team, we’re actively supporting our community acutely impacted by this pandemic: healthcare professionals fighting the virus day in and day out, the elderly population rendered more vulnerable during self-isolation, and low-income children who rely on school for meals and other support.

To do so, we have donated to the following organizations:

  • The World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund: The fund supports the work of the WHO across all countries as they prepare and respond to cases. WHO works to track and understand the spread of the virus and accelerate efforts to develop vaccines, tests, and treatments. It also ensures that patients get the care they need and helps frontline workers get essential supplies and information.
  • Spark* SF Public Schools: The SF Unified School District (SFUSD) serves over 54,000 students across 119 school sites and provides 37,900 meals daily. Staff continues to provide educational resources and free meals for children. They will also work to foster educational continuity, especially for those students furthest from opportunity. During the closure, SFUSD staff will ensure that schools are clean and ready for when students return.
  • Meals on Wheels SF (MOWSF): In addition to the more than two million grocery and meal deliveries provided to 4,500+ seniors, Meals on Wheels provides a crucial safety-net that helps prevent hunger, homelessness, and isolation for SF seniors. This team of drivers, nutritionists, social workers, and volunteers provides a multidisciplinary approach to senior well-being much needed during recommended self-isolation.

We believe that this pandemic is manageable when communities come together, just as OK Group donated to support early cases in Wuhan. Earlier this week, Wuhan reported no new cases since the initial outbreak over three months ago.

We’re still acclimating to this new way of work and life, but are committed to continuing to support our community in any way we can, in addition to continuing to support our global user base.
