Okcoin Announces ‘Let’s Build Bitcoin Together!’: Our pledge to donate up to 1,000 BTC to the Development of the Bitcoin Community

We’ve got big news — 1,000 BTC BIG!

We’re excited to announce our latest initiative: Let’s Build Bitcoin Together! — a pledge to donate up to 1,000 BTC towards the continued development of Bitcoin. From September 3 to September 27, crypto enthusiasts can come to the OKCoin platform to vote which project they’d like to see receive a donation; Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), or Bitcoin Satoshi’s Vision (BSV). For each vote received, OKCoin will donate 0.02 BTC (or the BCH or BSV equivalent) to the respective project. BUT, we need YOU to cast your vote so we can give the full 1,000 BTC away.

Why are we committing to the developer community?

Here at OKCoin, our mission is to make digital assets accessible to the world, and we believe these projects will help make that a reality. We are passionate about these communities and aim to bring together three well-known, unlikely players. Our objective here is not to have the projects compete against one another. Instead, we aim to attract all members of the communities to support the growth of each project. The reality is that we’re all one crypto community, all working toward a better overall ecosystem and a successful digital future. When we build together, we win together, and accessibility to the world is a winning scenario for every developer, organization, and person involved. We support and know that with a thriving ecosystem comes global adoption. That’s why we are rallying behind our community and empowering individuals to make a tangible contribution to the future of crypto.

Where will the donations go?

The final donation amount for each project will be divided among the pre-selected organizations and  developers for the advancement of BTC, BCH, or BSV. While OKCoin understands that many developers and organizations contribute to the growth and success of each chosen project, the company’s final list of donation recipients includes verified individuals or organizations who fulfilled the specifications of the initiative.

How can you get involved and vote?

It’s simple. In order to vote, we need to verify that you are really you, and not a bot trying to sway the results. There are three steps you must complete before you receive your vote:

  1. Create an OKCoin account and pass KYC Level 2
  2. Deposit at least 100 USD or EUR into your OKCoin account
  3. Deposit at least 100 USD worth of anyone of OKCoin’s accepted digital asset

Yes, we know there are a number of steps users must take to receive a vote, but we also know how technologically advanced the community is and want to keep voting fair. Once these three steps have been completed, the user will then be granted one vote, which is worth 0.02 of BTC (or the equivalent in BCH or BSV). Votes are precious, and may take up to 15 minutes to receive after completing all three steps. Once received, cast your vote on the Let’s Build Bitcoin Together! webpage. After casting your vote, your deposited funds can be withdrawn, or you can start trading!. Make sure you stay tuned though so you can watch the donation progress for each project.

The Let’s Build Bitcoin Together! webpage includes the most up-to-date information, as well as the progress for each project.

How will these donations be used?

We want to give away the full 1,000 BTC, so we reached out to a few advocates to inspire our community with their vision. Here’s how these organizations and developers plan to use the donation.

Jimmy Song, BTC developer, author, and educator, plans to use the donation to train more developers through scholarships in his program, Programming Blockchain:

“There are so many talented developers out there, but largely they don’t know where to start. When I first got into Bitcoin programming, I wasted a lot of time trying to gather information when I could’ve been building. Having a resource that can guide you into the space can really shorten that learning curve. I think this educational program is a win-win for everyone: It helps developers and also empowers them to make a larger contribution to Bitcoin and civilization as a whole.”

Bitcoin Unlimited plans to use the donation to foster the continued growth of BU’s mandate and the adoption of bitcoin as a peer-to-peer electronic cash system:

“Donated funds will be used to further BU’s mandate of bringing p2p cash to the world. In particular, funds will be used to pay the salaries of existing and new developers working on projects related to scaling and adoption, subsidize future BCH conferences and workshops, and pay for the hardware and servers required to run experiments. It will expand and improve the Ledgerjournal for the scientific community.

Over the next 12 months, BU intends to perform another round of experiments on the Gigablock Testnet, identify and remove the next bottlenecks to scaling, and demonstrate Visa-level sustained throughput (2000 tx/sec) on a global network of bitcoin nodes.”

Ella Qiang, BSV developer and founder of the CambrianSV boot camp, plans to use the donation to sponsor developers by covering program expenses, enabling them to focus on building:

“Bitcoin SV is by far the only project that preserves the economic design of the original Bitcoin, with an aggressive plan to open Bitcoin for business. Its secure and stable protocol is ideal for enterprise-scale applications. CambrianSV is a 7-day boot camp focused solely on building next-generation products for the real-time economy powered by Bitcoin SV. We believe our program will be a strong catalyst to boost on-chain transactions, where our alumni will be among the top players.”
