New licenses for even more global support

We’re building an inclusive future of finance, and with our latest license updates, we now serve over 185 countries. We’ve secured approval in Malta, and new licenses in the Netherlands and Puerto Rico.

TL;DR

  • Okcoin has received formal approval from the Dutch Central Bank to operate in the Netherlands as a crypto service provider
  • We’re the first U.S. headquartered exchange to receive approval for a Class 4 VFA license from the Malta Financial Services Authority
  • We’ve secured a money transmitter license in Puerto Rico

The Netherlands and Malta

Okcoin’s story with the Netherlands has developed in three steps:

  • In 2018 we started serving Dutch customers with crypto-to-crypto trading;
  • In May 2020, we registered with the Dutch Central Bank (DNB) as a crypto service provider offering crypto-to-fiat trading and exchange services;
  • In July 2021, our registration was approved by the DNB, which will allow us to focus on Dutch customers and will enable even greater payment rail integrations across Europe.

In Malta, we secured approval from the Malta Financial Services Authority. This enables us to offer cryptocurrency trading in addition to more commonly available wallet services in Malta.

These license updates enable Okcoin to service customers across Europe as a regulated exchange, opening the door to partnerships with local banks and payments providers to further facilitate easy transactions in these markets, simplify the Euro-to-cryptocurrency transmission, and minimize regulation risks.

Puerto Rico

We secured a money transmitter license in Puerto Rico helping us start serving customers in this important U.S. territory.

With the addition of these new licenses, Okcoin now serves over 185 countries, more than any other U.S.-headquartered cryptocurrency exchange in the world. And we’re just getting started.
