What’s Axie Infinity?
Axie Infinity is one of the most played games in the blockchain space, with more than 1 million daily active users as of August 2021. It reminds of Pokémon since it’s built around creatures called Axies, which can be collected, bred, raised, and traded. The point is to build a team of three Axies and use them to battle against other players. Throughout the game and the different battles, players can earn tokens to breed more Axies.
What’s special about Axie Infinity is that the game’s breeding mechanics create a new, unique Axie, which is encoded as a so-called “non-fungible token” (NFT): a unique token on the blockchain. Virtual land, also in NFT form, can also be bought in the game now.
